Upgrading skates

Recommended Posts

I am currently wearing a CCM U+ 09 and am doing some bargain shopping for a skate upgrade. I have found the CCM U+ Pro Reloaded for $250.00, CCM U+ Cl's for $399.00 and the Reebok 11K for $329.99. Does anyone have any thoughts on any of these skates and the respective prices and which sounds like a better deal? Thanks

There are some great deals right now out there on CCM U+ CL skates. With the introduction of the RBZ skates this summer they are all on clearance and will be very close to your price range. The U Foam in that skate is incredible and highly mouldable. I would check those out.

So, I got 11Ks and U+ CLs, both for around the prices mentioned above.

Initial thoughts: you can't go wrong with either. I bought both the CCM and Reeboks in size 11.5E, and have noticed that both fit well on my higher volume feet. The CCM does have a markedly narrower heel and provides much more solid heel lock than the Reebok.

If you've got a narrow heel, get the CCMs. If you have a wider heel, the Reebok should be a great fit.

As far as boot construction, both are Canadian made and look to be high quality. The CCM is very, very stiff after baking (As stiff as my old One95s) and the 11K is way softer, almost as soft as a Bauer 5000 of traditional construction. The one gripe I have is about the tongue on the U+ CL. It's foam on the outside with felt backing and very thick. I will be replacing it with a traditional felt tongue because, as is, it is too thick and feels very bulky once the skate is laced up.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.
