Hockeydog 8 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 I am going to try my hand at downhill snow skiing this weekend. Is there anything I can do that can serve as cross training for hockey skating? I thought about maybe trying to walk up hill with skis on or even on flat surfaces using a cross country skiing technique. Anything those who both ski and skate can offer would be great. I have been on skis only once for about 10 min in my life. Upper beginner to low intermediate skater. Thanks !!
MarsB 33 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 XC skiing (especially uphill) is a great leg workout for hockey. Learning to downhill ski should be your primary focus this weekend, you'll have your hands full! I wouldn't worry about any cross training just yet, you're likely to be plenty sore and tired regardless.
Monty22 833 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 The motion of stopping and turning on skis is VERY similar to stopping in skates. I first tried skiing in my late 20's and it was cake once I discovered that.
