Mark your calendars! The Yaks Give Back charity event for 2013 has been set for Sunday, April 21 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The beneficiary this year is the Ann Arbor Rockets, a hockey team for mentally challenged youth based at Vets Ice Arena. The Rockets provide an opportunity for youth of all abilities to experience the joy of playing hockey by providing ice time, coaching and equipment to the players, all free of cost to the parents. The Rockets were formed in January of 2011 with the help of generous start-up funds granted by Dance Marathon, a U-M student charity. The Rockets now depend upon fund-raising and donations to provide this fantastic opportunity for disabled athletes from throughout the State of Michigan. More information about the Rockets can be found at http://a2rocketshockey.org/

The day will run from 1 PM to 6 PM, with the following schedule:

1:00 PM Yaks vs. Yaks Game 1 - Lower Skill

2:40 PM A special Yaks vs. the Rockets Game (there will be an additional fee of $35 for this game)

3:50 PM Yaks vs. Yaks Game 2 (Higher Skill).

5:45 PM Silent Auction and Raffle Winners Announced

All games will include introductions, and the Chuck a Puck will occur during the first intermission of the 2ndYaks vs. Yaks game.

ALL are highly encouraged to take part in this great event, either by playing or volunteering, or both! Participation in one game will be $90, which covers ice time, a donation to the Rockets and a custom jersey. Please send me a PM by the 21st of February If you would like to play. Volunteering includes solicitation of sponsors and or raffle/auction prizes, “game day” set up and clean up, and recruitment of celebrities or whoever/whatever will bring fans to the arena!
