Junior v. Senior Skates

Recommended Posts

I am currently wearing X:60s (6D-very small foot), but before I bought them I tried on the CCM Crazy Lights (5.5D). With my X:60 not being at nearly as stiff as I'd like anymore, I was going to get the APXs or 7.0s. That said, I remembered trying on the CCMs and thought with this next year being my last year of high level hockey, if I can save money on skates I should probably do it.

Is there any difference between the materials these skate companies use between JR and SR skates? I have to have a very stiff skate so that's why I'm a bit worried about making this purchase. I doubt there is, but figured I'd ask because of the huge price differences.

Finally, I was told CCM CL's run fairly narrow. Is this correct? I have a very narrow foot so I've always bought Bauer skates. Skates also feel like they fit my narrow foot the first couple of months but then begin to loosen up on my feet so it's tough for me to tell if going from CCM to Bauer is a wise purchase.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I don't know about all the materials and whatnot but I do know this. My wife has a very small foot (size 4) and she got junior skates instead of seniors. The boot is not as stiff and there is little support for her ankles. When we talked to someone, they said the skates are made for people who are smaller and therefore, don't have the support as seniors That said, these were fairly low-end skates. But when she tried out low-end seniors, they were fine. Just our two cents.

Everyone has a different perception of stiff or soft and wide or narrow, that's why you need to try skates in person.
