Reebok 16K vs CCM U+10

Recommended Posts

Assuming they fit equally well, which is the better skate? They are both 2 down from the top model in their line. The u+10's are about $120 cheaper on clearance. I'm leaning towards the 16k as I was thinking that the stiffness would be closer to a traditional leather skate? Any comments on the durability of either skate? If it matters, I would be considered an advanced skater as I have been playing hockey for 37 years.

I have the U10s and have had zero issues with them durability wise. Very solid skate IMO, and great price on the clearance.

that said, their will be some fit differences between the two. I didnt like how an 11k fit on my foot compaired to the u10s.

The CCMs are considerably deeper, though ignoring that, I would also go U+10 regardless of price. Saving $120 seals the deal.

Great, thanks for the feedback. I'll try on the U+10 again and see if they fit well. I had tried on the 8K, 10K and 11K and found them to feel sloppy in the heel. The 16K did not feel the same, so I assumed that they changed the heel in the new line. I did not use the pump in any of the skates I tried on, as I would not want to rely on that for heel lock.

I had 6k and now have the u10's. I loved the fit of the 6k skates but the ccm lock my heel a lot better. I didn't rely on the pump either, I'd use it during games if needed later on. I'd go ccm all the way though. They feel like slippers haha

True. They narrowed the heel in the current line, as well as moved the Pump back and down (and the air bladder with it) and these changes were indeed supposed to help with heel lock.

Tried on the U+10's and they felt pretty good, other than some pain on the inner ankle. The pain started to subside as the skate warmed up, so I assume a bake would take care of the discomfort. Was ready to make the purchase until I noticed that the holder on the left skate was mounted roughly 3 mm further forward than the right. Was the last pair in my size in the store, so I decided to wait. I know holders can be removed and remounted, but I wonder what the effect would be on the outsole? It's only a few mm, so no new holes to drill, but the existing holes have to be enlarged, correct?

Just wait for them to get a better pair or take advantage of some Memorial Day deals online. And the u10boot foam is very hear moldable
