Is this normal (shin pads)

Recommended Posts

Upgraded from Bauer vapor 3.0 to reebok 9k on clearance. Reebok are a bit bulkier and not tapered.

They hang over the outside of the skate as you can see. Is that normal for bulkier shins? Also, does anybody who has these remove the thigh guard above the knee?

Ok. Quick follow up. Should the shin guard and skate boot over lap some or should the bottom of the guard just meet the top of the boot? I have these over the tongue and the outside of the skate boot tucks into the outer side of the shin. Where as the inside of my skate boot isn't tucked in to the guard. More like the guard goes inside the boot a little. Just want to make sure I have the right fit and size

as long as it doesn't hinder your skating, and feels comfortable, it's all personal preference... mine rest right down on the top of my foot.

Wow, so the top of the boot must be entirely inside the shin guard. I tried it and then my knee cap isn't in there right and the bottom of the shin flares out. That would drive me crazy.

no, i wear a 16, it's probably a size bigger than I should be, but I like that it covers the top of the foot/angle better than just the tongue will, and the sides meet up perfectly with the top of the boot.

16's are the same way for me, they rest on the top of the foot. When I used them I let them float and ride up and down when I skated. Now I use 15's and tuck them behind the tongue

I don't get it. How can it rest on top of foot and be even with top of boot? U can see in my pics that it's not close to the top of my foot and the shin is already overlapping the top of the boot

I can't stand having my shin guards get stuck in one side of the top of the boot like that. I usually heat up the bottom of the shin guard and make them wider so that doesn't happen.

When I switched from flopped tongues & 14" shin guards to shins over tongues with 16" pads, I noticed the same thing. But, within a stride or two on the ice, the pads seems to 'set' itself in place. My bigger issue is the shin pads start to rotate outward on both legs, so as I look down, I see them turning outward and have to reposition an inch or two through the game. Not sure if I just need to crank down my tape job or what.....suggestions welcome.

Different brands are cut differently at the bottom.
