Player Safety - Shot blocking restrictions

Recommended Posts

Not in favor of the rule. I block a lot of shots, usually in a standing position. I don't like to take myself out of the play should they choose to pass or step around me. In the past Ohio State had a no leaving your feet to block a shot rule, not sure if it was for the same reason.

As a shot blocker I personally have had and noticed at multiple levels of play far more pain, suffering and serious injury by being struck in the foot than in the shins, pants or chest.. I think you'd see an increase in foot bruising, swelling and fractures from this rule change.

While I believe carbon fiber is a direction worth looking into, my Kor Shift 1 & 2s both have multiple chunks missing from the carbon fiber in the toes where the edge of the carbon fiber base meets the plastic toe cap.

Safety is one piece of the argument. The other part would be the effect on game play.

The power-play would certainly be a bigger advantage with shot blocking restrictions.
