fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted June 11, 2013 Long time inline player, and started a transition to ice a couple months ago. I had a pair of Graf G70s that were a tad too big for the first few months, and have now got a pair of Kor Shift 2 that were baked at home. The Kor Shift 2 came sharpened (thanks to a buddy of mine). They were sharpened to a 1/2" hollow, and I set the pitch to a +1 forward. I tried them out the other night after baking them at home and they fit pretty well (could use a little more big toe room, but I think a few more skates and I can get the length right after a little more break in.I've found myself losing the outer edge of the skates during turns, even slow turning I fing the inner leg losing the outer edge (if that makes sense). I did speak with the skate instructor, and he suggested going with a deeper cut?Or should I put the pitch back into neutral and then see what happens? I'm loving the forward pitch as it puts me on my toes like I used to skate in the older style mission hilo.
althoma1 575 Report post Posted June 11, 2013 As I mentioned in my PM, I'd try getting them sharpened again at the same hollow before trying anything else. Sometimes a good hollow isn't put on new steel if the necessary time isn't taken for a first sharpening. If your buddy only spent the same amount of time sharpening them as he does older steel then maybe a good hollow wasn't established through the length of the blades.1/2" isn't a shallow hollow so with a good sharpening you really shouldn't have a problem with the edges slipping out. It wouldn't hurt to try the neutral setting as that's free and easy, but I'd get them resharpened. I'd also probably try to go to a shallower hollow eventually as well since I know you started in roller. I also play both roller and ice and feel that a shallower hollow makes it a bit easier to transition from roller to ice.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted June 11, 2013 That's good advice. If you still have issues, a deeper cut is the way to go. I wouldn't go too far, maybe 7/16ths
