alwaysserious15 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 I'm currently using reebok 10k's I bought like 4 years ago. Very protective but extremely bulky. I tried switching to Bauer x60's but I hate the knee cap on them. What are you currently using now. I like my 10ks but hate howWide they are. I'm trying to change the shape of them right now. I have them taped really tight bending the plastic while they hang on my hockey tree. Anyone do something like this before or am I just wasting my time. TeamHonda401 54 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 Take out the liner and use a heat gun on the lowest setting. Once it becomes pliable you can narrow them up. Be careful with the heat though as you can ruin your pads quite easily. There have been other threads on this in the past, and most guys have said this works. Zjack38 46 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 If you want new ones that are skinnier, grafs run pretty narrow, well at least the ones I have are.
TeamHonda401 54 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 Bauer Vapor shins as well as the Easton Stealth shins run quite narrow as well.
alwaysserious15 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 I have a pair of vapors. The squared knee cap is annoying. The stealths look the same. What type of grafs?
th6252 25 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 not sure about the current line but in the previous generation reeboks, all the pads below the top line 11k have a narrower profile. also, the current ccm u+ line seems to run a bit narrower as well.
Zjack38 46 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 Graf g45s they have decent calf protection to.

The 11k-9k-7k line all have the same shell shape/profile; the density of the foams and the calf wrap are where they differ.

AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Yeah, Stealth and current CCM are among the narrowest. Have to disagree on classifying Reebok as narrow, they're among the wider pads. Also agree on the heat gun method. It worked for me.
MilleniumFalcon 5 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 I tried the heat gun with some Jofas....doesn\t work. Plastic unbends after a while and they become even more wide...wtf!

I wrapped them again and I'm gonna wait now longer than a day to unwrap them.
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 I use CCM U+Pros, which are unmodified but bulkier and I may yet narrow them one day. I've narrowed down a sample pair of shin pads that I was given as part of my work. A bit of even heat in key areas (don't have to heat up the whole pad at once) and taping does indeed work.
