syinx 139 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 Hi guys,So I've always experienced shin pains in my legs while skating. The story goes like this: I learnt to skate and played hockey from the ages 5-10, my parents got fed up with buying me gear, so I just played ball hockey, and never really got back into skating til I moved to Vancouver. Upon going there, dad got me a pair of skates as a gift, and while I could skate in them, I got excruciating arch and shin pains.I soon found out the skates were too big (Size 6, whereas I'm a Size 4.5, yeah, Jeez) because my dad had no clue what he was doing. So I sold them off (they were Easton SE10s) and was treated to a pair of on-sale Bauer Supreme One.9s by a proper skate fitter.I then felt much less foot and shin pain, but still a decent amount. Superfeet helped, custom Graf Insoles helped even more, but nothing would work. It's come to the point I can't skate a full game without feeling proper pain in my shins, just behind the bone in front, which can only be alleviated when I sat down or leaned against the boards with my heels on the ice (even standing still would make 'em throb). Is it time to look into proper orthotics? I've recently been given a pair of Easton Mako skates as a gift (they'll fit my foot, I had tried them on at a store before adding 'em to a birthday wishlist) and hopefully the wonderful foot mold will help. Will the orthotics fit in the skate?
Zjack38 46 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 While I don't know about the orthotics thing, could you have shin splints or something like that?
sticky667 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 You may want to try unlacing the top eyelet. Sounds like you don't have enough forward movement or your foot is too deep in the boot.
Joonas #6 3 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Zjack38 has a point. You should probably see a doctor and possibly get x rays of your shins/feet. I've had shin splints for many years and if your problem is shin splints, I know how you feel and its not a great feeling at all.
chumbucket 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2014 Is OP still having this trouble? Unclear to me exactly where OP is having pain. Is this just run of the mill lace bite? If so, thing that worked like magic for me was cutting out a U-shaped piece of foam to go around the spot of the pain and tape it on to the tongue. No more lace bite. syinx 139 Report post Posted February 20, 2014 I no longer have any pain whatsoever. I'm now skating in Easton Makos with no superfeet nor orthotics!
