back to regular Bauer LS2 blade profile from StepSteel

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just wanted to share the experience with StepSteel so far.

Switched from LSfusion on my APX 8.5EE 280 holder to StepSteel. Been skating for couple of months.

I now feel that Step seem to have too much height and also more bulk on the toe and hill of the blade for me.

I even felt many times when going really fast in glide mode that my feet start to wobble..like I have not tighten my boot.

Rocking on the skate it's also difficult, I mean toe to hill.

I am going to try to put my LSfusion blade back on and see...

I think steel quality is good, but profile of the blade with large 10ft radius and bulk on the ends is not working for me..

Don't know what to do exactly yet, but I feel that I need something changed.

What's your experience?

Thanks

You can get the radius changed, just an fyi.

I have a pair ordered, and I am really excited for the extra height. When I turn sharply it seems like the boot of my skate touches the ground slightly (near the toe) so hopefully this can help. If not, I'll have to get my skating technique checked out.

Yes, it will help you to gain extra clearance. However, it will be personal experience I guess if it will work for you in a long run... I

I personally gotta try couple of things now, like switching back to LSfusion blade then based on that if I like more have my Step profiled same way without reducing the height.

If height is still the problem then reduce height. It's possible that it's gonna be a matter of changing radius back to 9ft.

Simple answer is get the 9' radius and have the toe/heel radius shaved a little. This will be close to your fusions in shape, yet keeping the height.

Tried my LSfusion back. Big difference in speed and agility vs factory Step profile. I guess I should have radius changed to 9 and toe/hill shaved like on LSfusion blades... Also could try blade radius to stay on 10 and hill/toe shaved like on bauer's fusion.

I should have mentioned, anytime you change steel, you should give your body mechanics at least 6 hrs of skating to adjust to the new shape. IMO shaving to match steel that has less on the toe/heel reduces overall performance. Once the muscle memory adapts, you'd be surprised how much better you could be skating.

I agree with Jimmy. I had regular LS 2.1 steel in my skates and worn it down enough that I needed to replace it. Replacing my thin worn steel with step steel, which is fairly tall, took a little while to get used to. I've skated on my new runners about 6 times now and I see no reason why I would change anything.
