narrow shin pads/rbk 7k

Recommended Posts

I'm lookin' to get some new shin pads my old 5 rbk '13 are really to short for me but I love the fact there not bulky. Need something whith good knee protection as I have a bad knee and play kinda crazy.

How do the rbk 7k's fit if anyone has them?

Is the only thing that makes shin pads bulkier the fact they don't tapper at the bottom? I like the shin pads over the skate so thats not an issue to me.

Just picked up a pair of 7ks. Haven't gotten them on the ice yet, but they felt great in-store. I like shins that are light and relatively low profile. I have fairly thick legs, and they were wide/deep enough.

Edit - Loved them after one skate. My only (minor) complaint is that the material that the straps are made from felt a bit rough and almost a bit itchy. I'm comfortable enough with them so that I'm throwing away my old ones.

Yeah the strap suck, either way today I hit my knee on the ice with the old 5k's and bruised it so I need some good pads to protect my already fragile knees. I'm getting old.

I have totalones, they arent bulky at all and they have excellent protection plus they have the best straps iv seen on a shin guard - comfortable and I'v never had to use tape.

I tried on the 7ks when looking for shin guards and I didn't like the strapping system plus they felt much bulkier on my leg compared to the total ones (even though the total ones offer better protection being a top of the line pad).

I completely agree with you regarding the strapping Kyle - having tried on all the top shin guards I prefer the pads that use a strapping style similar to the TotalOne pads with the neoprene top strap that attached at the front. I have a pair of Bauer SMU pads I picked up for roller recently (a cross between the One80 and One60) that use the same strapping style and the Warrior Projekts I have for ice have a similar strapping system as well. The top tiers of the Supreme and Vapor line (although the bottom strap on the Vapors also attaches on the front) all have similar strapping systems as do the top end Warrior pads (the new Dynasty AX1, old Projekt ect.).

The overall fit should be the primary concern as straps can be cut off and shin pads can be secured with tape alone, however; if two pads fit equally well I'd definitely choose one that has a strapping system that's like the one on the TotalOnes.

The narrowest shin guards I've toyed with are the Easton Stealth RS ones - they fit my skinny as hell calves really well, with a decent strapping system to boot. Might be worth looking into.
