How to soften up where ball of my foot meets toe cap on instep (Supreme One.9)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any advice on a material that I could use, to soften up the inside of the toe cap, where the ball of my foot meets the skate? I have been using Bauer Supreme One.9 LEs (size 10.0 EE), and they are a bit hard and stiff. I have not yet baked them, and may resort to this method. As the skates stand (unbaked), the right skate is treating me perfectly fine with perfect fit, comfort and everything else. The left skate is giving me problems, as my left foot is my bigger foot, and it is thus apparently a bit more sensitive to these skates.

Anyway, I played inline in my Mission Revolts (also size 10.0 EE) last night for about 1.5 hours with absolutely perfect comfort in both boots. I just received these skates, this was my first skate in them, unbaked. This morning, just feeling around inside the boot where the problem area is on my foot, I felt that the liner is soft, like some sort of vevlet/ velour/ felt material. Contrarily, the inside of my One.9 LEs at this problem area, is hard as a rock at that point.

So, is there any sort of material that I can insert into my boot, to soften up this one area? I tried one of these gel pads at the spot of discomfort, but it just made it worse:

I want this one particular area on the One.9 LEs to feel like my Mission Revolts. I am considering buying the Inhalers and doing a conversion of these to ice hockey skates, but I would rather not, if I can help it. I do not trust myself with a drill, trying to drill into insoles on skates is just a bit beyond my level of competency in such matters.

Below is a pic of where the inflammation/ discomfort is. The red oval circles the area of discomfort. The white cream is just Traumeel. It has been about 5 weeks since it flared up. It seems to be getting better, slowly but surely; I just want to make sure I do not re-aggravate it when it heals. I am also now using double footbed (CCM RBZ footbeds on top of Yellow Superfeet). This has actually made the skates alot more comfortable, specifically in the problem area, as the discomfort is a bit underneath the ball of the foot, ever so slightly, and the double footbed just eases up on the pressure with the extra cushion. I also have 4 of the ankle gel pads strategically placed, under the 2 footbeds, which I think is also helping soften up this area.
