Velcrow on Farrell Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

I've been on the hunt for a basic shoulder pad for beer and 'C' league play. I've read the threads all over MSH and know that the Sherwood 5030's, CCM 1899's and Bauer Classic Supremes are all recommended and popular in this area. I have a pair of the 1899's and really didn't like the fit. I'm a little 'husky' so I'm not faulting the pad, perhaps just not a good fit for me.

Today, I came into a pair of Farrell H600's for cheap, and I got them with no hesitation. II went ahead and removed the shoulder caps and have been playing around with the plastic cap configuration all afternoon. The issue i'm having is that the velcrow is really gritty and seems to catch my jersey a bit when moving around. I'm typically in practice jerseys, and it seems the jersey is very easily developing pulls in the stitching due to the exposed velcrow.

Other than putting some cheap velcrow tape (soft side) right on the gritty velcrow to cover it over, does anyone have any other ideas on how to deal with this creatively?

As a side note, I've been playing without shoulder pads for the past two years, but towards the end of last season, I was seeing my beer league crew amping up a bit, and playing a slighter more competitive game in the corners, in front of net, etc. I know these guys, so I don't mind the extra physicality, I just think i'll be happier with a little protection. Looking forward to these Farrells......

have you ever tried rugby pads/ shirts?

For beer league, I found these to be the best...Just saying

Other than that I don't know how to address your issue...

Yes, put the caps back on where they belong. problem solved.

That's the easiest solution. The next option would be to buy some extra velcro and cover the exposed bits that are causing the problems.

I have these same pads so I know what you're talking about... Even with the caps on there is exposed velcro which tugs and pills at jerseys and shirts.

I've wrapped the exposed velcro on mine with two or so layers of stick tape and that solved the issue.

Now if only the exposed velcro on the inside flap of the center vest flap didn't pill every dri-fit shirt I've ever worn... Still no good answer to that issue.
