Reebok Skate Issue

Recommended Posts

I've had a pair of Reebok 16K skates for 5-6 months and have been playing a couple times a week. I'm finding that they've lost a lot of the stiffness in the boot and I'm finding a lot of the stitching is coming out. Has anyone else had these problems with these skates? I know they aren't top of the line skates, so they weren't the stiffest to begin with. But the change is quite noticeable.

I'll join in on this as well - 16K's owned for about 6 months. Stitching isn't a huge issue for me (some stitches here and there), however.

The tendon guard is developing some tears on the outer side of each skate (definitely losing some stiffness in that area) - haven't taken the skates off by the tendon guards, nor have I wrapped the laces/taped the shins to my skates.

Had the tendon guards start tearing on my first pair of skates (Reebok 6K's), but I chalked that up to me actually removing skates the wrong way/lacing the guard, and to it being more of an entry level skate.

Have you found the skates losing some of the stiffness in the boot?

I mean, the skates felt amazing in the store and had the best fit for me in the store

I had all but decided to purchase a pair of 16K's. Guess I'll have to rethink that. :(

Haven't lost too much stiffness in the boot, must have lost some - as that's natural. However, the boot stiffness hasn't been a huge issue - you likely have had a bit more ice-time than I have (I only skate once, maybe twice a week if I'm lucky). How do you go about drying your skates after your sessions?

I dry them out in a stall I have in the basement of my condo building. Not the greatest, especially in the summer. It gets pretty humid down there. The fit on them has been awesome though.

I agree, the fit has been great - haven't used the pump as much as I anticipated (not a bad thing, I suppose).

Perhaps the way the skates are being dried are contributing to the quicker breakdown of the skates - I can't be sure of this, but I imagine the moisture wouldn't be helping?

Typically, I remove the insoles (those can dry on their own wherever they land), but I throw the skates on/near a vent (helps the drying and the smell!).

The skates have performed quite well up to this point - the breakdown of the tendon guard bugs me, but it can be repaired. Ideally, you wouldn't need to repair a pair of skates that are less than a year old, though! Just thought I would chime in on this.
