Better Bang?

Recommended Posts

Looking to purchase a new twig, but not spend a whole-lot seeing as I only play 1-2 times a week.

I've been eyeing the RBZ 80 and Ribcor 24K. Leaning towards the RBZ because the performance dropoff from the 25K to the 24K seems pretty drastic. So at $150 for the 25K, $130 for the RBZ80 and $100 for the 24K, which is the best bang for the buck?

From what I've heard and from messing around with it in a store, the 25k is very close to the Ribcor in terms of weight, balance, and performance, at about half the cost. As for the RBZ80, I have a friend who got one with his RBZ 90 skates (used the gift card from the skates to buy the stick), and he says he loves it. It has the same blade as the RBZ Stage 2, so the main differences are in the construction of the shaft and the overall weight. As for the 24k, I don't know too much about it, but I feel you're losing out on the biggest selling point of the stick line: the pre-loaded fibers in the ribs.

Also, In terms of 'bang for buck,' the Sher-Wood T90 is always a solid choice. While the 25k and RBZ 80 are constructed with a mix of carbon fiber and fiberglass, the T90 is 100% carbon fiber. It also uses the same blade foam as the T100 and EK15.

I think all three are solid choices. You'll have to take a chance on one based on how it feels in your hands, and you'll see if you like it when you use it on the ice (that is, unless you can try a friend's stick out or shoot with one at your LHS). IMO, I would recommend the T90 based on its solid track record and the new tech that was implemented in the latest (2012) version.

My main reason for asking. kinda feel like it defeats the purpose of getting a ribcor w/o it

I purchased a Stage 2 a short while back. It never lasted long. One thing I observed is that when I first bought it, it felt AMAZING and had tons of pop. But it honestly seemed to lose so much of that feel very quickly. The entire stick got soft on me in a short period , and then eventually the blade broke. The first 2-3 games were great, but It lost it's "pop" after that. As a comparison, my APX 's pop and feel seemed to last a fair bit longer...

Im going to try out some reeboks..

I've seen Makos for $115, 11ks for $99, RS for $115 at a lot of stores. I personally think its quite a deal to get previous generation top end stick vs. 2nd or 3rd tier current models. I remember when Sportcheck kept putting S19s for $110 every couple of months or so, can't go wrong with that. Can't comment on the RBZ or the 24k though, but maybe you'd want to check out "older" sticks.

One game in, love my 25k. Getting used to the curve so my shots are a tad off, but it's got great pop.

yea the curves are a little different espically since the high lie but they shoot like a cannon!

I went from p88 types to a duchene. Shouldn't be a huge adjustment, but I did clang a post very hard :) all my stick work etc was really good with it. If it doesn't work out I'll sell it and go with a Perron
