Newb on Bauer Vapor X 4.0s - Keep or Swap

Recommended Posts

I do not know how to ice skate ( yes yes I know) but am dedicated and have been inline and skiing my whole life. With that said, I ordered a pair of Vapor X4.0s. Reviews seem decent. My concern is ankle protection. I am 5'10 and weigh 205 ( packed on a few living the good life haha). I can keep these and learn in them and than upgrade or swap before they get shipped. Got till tomorrow mid-day to decide. The 5.0 is available in a 7.5EE and im a D. 6.0 out of stock in my size and if I was to swap it be for the 7.0.

Here is the Description:

Upper Features:

  • Quarter Package - Sublimated silver tech nylon with thermoformed X-rib pattern
  • Lining Material - Hydrophobic microfiber
  • Heel Support - Patented integrated, anatomical heel/ankle support
  • Ankle Padding - Anaform foam ankle pads
  • Tongue Construction - Anatomical, 2-piece 40oz felt with metatarsal guard
  • Footbed - FORM-FIT with stabilizer grip

Lower Features:

  • Outsole - Lightweight, Pro-8 beveled TPU
  • Blade Holder and Runner - TUUK Lightspeed 2 with TUUK super stainless steel runner
  • Skate Weight: One skate, in size 8.0 D weighs 880 grams/31.04 ounces

Some might disagree but if this is something you're serious about and plan on doing regularly then I would get the best skates you can now. It will save you money in the long run and keep ya from having to break in another pair...get the skates in your size.

I am 190 lbs and I've been wearing a pair of x:30's, (which are essentially the same as the 4.0's) for three years. I'm an advanced skater and play once or twice a week. The skates are holding up fine, so I'm sure you will be fine with the 4.0's.

I am very serious about this. I have more questions, but for now just want to get the 4.0s, roll a mattress around my self, and get on the ice. Plan on taking some lessons and just skating hard everyday and learning and getting used to falling. .. should be a real Beauty in no time. :)

Been told no stick or games until the falling is second nature.. comments? I guess I kind of agree cause in inline I can pretty much do some insane moves and fall without a scratch and bounce back up..

I'd stick with the 4.0s. IMO the softer boot will be easier to learn to skate in.

But he says he has a lot of inline experience? After getting used to the ice, he will be skating great. He can't be compared to a newbie.
