Skate expense

I was at my LHS tonight trying on a pair of APX 2 skates. I'm really on the fence NXG or APX2. I got to talking with the employee at the store.

Those of you on the manufacturing side of this industry what does it cost to make a pair of skates? If certain retail store employees can get skates directly from the manufacturer for less then $300 special sale or something, then this leads me to believe that Bauer, CCM/Reebok and Easton are making one hell of a profit off skates or the retailers are. Maybe I'm just cheap, can some one explain this me or am I missing a very simple point.

This topic has come up many times over the years... we're not going to post any of that information. All that you would need to know is that the margins on skates aren't as big as you would think.

Unfortunately, the people that know the actual numbers are generally bound by confidentiality clauses and we can't give exact numbers.
