What would one use to black out pleather gloves?

I've never blacked out pleather but whenever I do black something out I prefer the oil-based Paint Sharpie except for the time I blacked out a pair of retail Warrior AK 27 gloves. used a sponge brush and India Ink for that one:

I used Marsh T-Grade ink, applied with pieces of a felt chalk eraser. I thought leather die might work better, but I had the ink on hand.
