CCM Res 300- not all pads contact my head?

Recommended Posts

I got a CCM Resistance 300 a couple weeks ago. It feels great on my head, snug with no pressure points. One thing I just noticed though is that not all of the pads touch my head. The pads that are halfway up do not touch. I was able to determine this by inserting a narrow object (a drinking straw) through one of the top vent holes while the helmet was on my head. I can move the object freely between my head and the pad. Do you think this compromises protection any? Do you think the new technology assumes all pads are in contact? I just play no-contact open hockey, but I like to think that my head is well protected. My Bauer 2100 actually has no padding at all in that area in question.

Would I be better of with a Bauer Re Akt assuming it fits just as well as the CCM?

Here is picture, the pads with the green "X" are the ones that do not touch my head...

I have no idea, but I would assume that the technology would work best if all the pads are in contact with your head. I would suggest either exchanging it for the RE-AKT if it fits better, or if you can't, get some extra VN foam padding that has an adhesive backing and cut it to fit onto the pods.

Either way, I'm sure you should be fine in a no contact league, plus the helmet itself is an upgrade from your previous.

Thanks for checking. I was looking at a few other Resistance helmets at the store last night and I noticed that the helmets tend to have those particular pads recessed compared to the rest of the pads. Looking at them I was expecting other people to have the same issue I have. Can you actually feel those pads in question touching? Did you insert something into the helmet to see if there was any space?

Ok. I tried on a medium and it was too tight at the largest adjustment. I had to go with a large. I like the helmet though. I feel it is much more secure and protective than the 2100 it replaced. I had to keep the 2100 adjusted too loose to keep the pressure points off my head. I can really snug down the Res 300 with no pressure points. I also tried on a 4500 yesterday at the shop and it also seemed to have pressure points on the side of my head.

Just stick it in the oven 2min at 175°. Slap it on yer head. Good to go! BRAINS!

Note: this was my attempt at humor. Do not try this for real.
