Holders coming loose on my Pure Fly's

Recommended Posts

I've noticed lately that my skates creak when I walk in them. So I looked them over & found that I could move the front of the holders back & forth almost an 1/8 inch without too much trouble.

Anyone else seen this?

My missions s500's creak too. And the outsole is comming apart. Just a few more weeks till i get new skates though, thankfully.

Your S500's are coming apart already? Arn't they a relatively new skate?

Yes. My stitching near the tennon is totaly ripped off too. I could just rip the tennon off if i wanted too. not to mention little tears near the bottom of the tennon as well. It rather dissapointing.

Hey that's the new standard for skate durability.....like Goodyear Eagles..."yeah buddy I know ya only got 15,000 miles on 'em, but hey that's what happens when you want performance......" Sounds like an MBA grad applying old definitions of planned obsolesence. Double the price, cut the life to 20%, and make em believe you just couldn't skate without them so they just have to live with the downside..... and "we have a wiener"..... It's not just one company either....Hell of a way to look after the profit line when volume falls off.

Sorry to all of you out here who have to market this stuff, or buy into the hype, but come on....how long can we be this gullible. It's not like these complaints are isolated instances. I for one do not accept that perfomance and durablility are mutually exclusive, nor do I accept that reduced weight automatically translates into improved performance. Anyone that has had their ultralight boot start to fail understands what I mean. If the energy cannot be properly transmitted to the surface, then lower weight means nothing. How many shifts did the player play with a failing boot before they finally came to accept that they needed replacement. How much performance was lost in terms of weak shifts due to poor equipment? How long do we go on pretending that we and others can afford "throw aways" at these prices...like we are making a big living from the sport?

Maybe I wouldn't rant so much if the sport was not suffering from a malaise due in great part to the economics of playing.

Bah...Humbug..... <_<

Of the 20 people I know in them, you're the only one with that problem. Why didn't you contact Mission customer service?

My Pure Fly's are holding up alright. The outsole looks like complete shit, although my holders are staying in place.

If they send me new skates, do they send them or do I just take them from the store? Because the problem right now is I dont have any time to wait a week for my new skates to come.

How much do you unlace them when you take them off and put them on? I know that I got a stern warning from my LHS owner when I got my first pair of Missions (PF's) a couple of years ago that if I didn't unlace them enough, I'd damage the back of the heel since it wasn't designed to be put through the stress of trying to wedge a foot in. Sure enough, I got the same warning with my S500's. Both sets of skates are still looking good, with 240lbs skating in them three days per week all year round.

Chad, you said your Pitches creak when the bolts are too tight? How tight should they be because mine are creaking too...
