burr14 17 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 I know theres a lot of threads about skate fit, stiffness etc. and believe me I did search and look at many but there seems to be a lot of variation depending on the person so just wanted to get opinions for my own situation. So just some background, I've been playing hockey all my life since I was 5/6 (23 now) and I would consider myself a fairly strong skater. Never played junior hockey or anything crazy but I've always consistently played and am definitely no beginner. Anyways I've always used mid level skates I think. I just basically used whatever my dad bought me. I was using a pair of tacks right up to my last years of Juvi hockey. They were falling apart so I ended up getting some Bauer one.7's used off craigslist a little while back (only reason I got used was because I've only ever worn CCM so didn't want to drop 400+ on new skates to have something that doesn't work out for my feet.)So now my one. 7's are no longer in the best shape so I was thinking about getting new skates. I currently play beer league (div 2/3) once a week and try to get a drop in session once or twice a week too. The supremes fit well so I was looking at Bauer 180's, more specifically at a custom Bauer supreme from LHS which is based on the 180 with a few 190/MX3 upgrades. Basically my question is considering I've never really used stiffer/higher end skates, will it be a rough transition period? Since I've been skating for 17+ years will a stiffer skate immediately result in benefits to my skating? Lastly I'm on the smaller side, 6 ft. but only like 165-170 pounds. Hopefully looking to put on some weight in the near future, but at my size/skill level will a skate of this stiffness be worse off or better for me?
strosedefence34 176 Report post Posted January 22, 2015 5'10" and 175lbs I went from Supreme One 70s (same skates as yours just 2 years older) to Supreme 190s and had no issues and I don't think they are or where too stiff. I think you should be okay.

By the end of the first game I was starting to get a bit used to it, 2nd game I was mostly used to it, 3rd game i was 90% used to it and could barely notice the difference, and 4th game they didn't feel weird at all, they were my "new normal". I'm 5'10" 150lbs and a strong technical skater. I think you will be fine in the skates you are considering.
