level of grip tackiness on sticks

Recommended Posts

I tend to prefer matte non-grip sticks, but noticing the trend that the majority of sticks now come in grip finishes of some sort (and some exclusively in grip - i.e. CCM Tacks). Wondering what some of your thoughts were on least tacky to most tacky grip finishes on the major brands? My biggest concerns would be decreased movement on the bottom hand for stick handling and also wear of glove palms.

Also, I know there are methods of "toning down" grip finishes on sticks. The one that intrigues me the most is to spray a light coat of clear acrylic spray paint over the grip finish. Does doing this cause an adverse effect in any way to the stick (i.e. throwing off balance, increasing weight, making the stick too slick)?

Thanks

This doesn't answer your first question, but what's helped me get rid of excess grip is to put clear sock tape over the top and bottom of the shaft. You could try this before doing something permanent. Also, if you put a couple layers on the bottom 1/3rd of the shaft it also helps your stick from chipping as much from slashes.
