Curves with full grip in inline skates

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am struggling a little with my turns when playing roller Hockey (I have just started). It seems to me that unlike on ice I get better grip when keeping the boot fairly upright with the pressure applied vertically and evenly spread on all wheels.

Can anyone give me some advice on that?

Cheers

Having the right hardness wheel for the surface you are on helps a lot but at the end of the day It all comes down to technique and practice. Ice and inline share similar basics for turning, knees well bent, balance over the center of your skates, feet correctly positioned in the turn. I would be reasonably confident in saying that a player who isn't great at turning in one sport will also have turning deficiencies in the other. Practicing one foot balance drills (eg large and small one foot figure 8's) will help a lot.

Thanks for your replies. The surface is an old sports court (I guess linoleum). I am about 165 lbs and thus go with x soft Labeda Gripper (which really make a change compared to the hilo indoor wheels that came with my Bauer x60).

My question is mainly concerning technique. As I mentioned above I have the impression that with inline skates one has to apply pressure more directly from above rather than with a ankle (like you would on ice to let the blade really bite).
