Champeen

CCM Tacks, switching holders, etc.

Hey-

I was recently at the not-so-LHS (3 hr drive) trying on skates and, despite having been in Vapors for years now, discovered that the new Tacks felt really, super comfortable right out of the box. I had to go down to a 7.5 in CCM from the 8.0 i'm currently in, but I was really impressed with the fit. Unfortunately, the shop only had the 7.5 in the 4052's, which felt a bit soft.... the only reason i didn't walk out of the store with new skates that day. SO--- I'm leaning toward ordering a pair of 5052's in the 7.5, but i've been toying with the idea of switching out the holders to TUUKS because i've been on them for so long.

My main question is to verify that the 272 mm Tuuk that would be on a standard Bauer size 8.0 is the right size to put on a pair of 7.5 Tacks, and also to see if anyone has made this switch and if there are any reasons NOT to do it.

Secondarily, can anyone confirm that the 5052 boot is noticeably stiffer than the 4052? Is it reasonable to expect the same comfortable fit I experienced with the 4052 at the shop?

Thanks!

Why would you change the holder without skating on it first? The speedblade is an excellent holder. If you're intent on changing them out, I think the 272 is the right size, but a call or email to the lhs can confirm. 5052 is quite a bit stiffer than the 4052.

yes. give the speedblade a shot before you go converting. If this were a boot with Epro, id say by all means do the conversion, but SB is to me a lot better and warrants a shot.
