Looking to replace my Graf Supra735, possibly Bauer.

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

My Graf Supra 735 are about 10 years old (~2 skates a week all year), and while they actually held up well despite that old age, I feel that
they don't seem to perform as they use to, not sure excatly why, but the internal lining is fairly worn out and I guess it's lost most of it's stiffness.
They are still extremely confortable but they don't seem to "respond" as they use too, or could me that I'm getting old and slow :)

Before those I had good old Bauer supremes 3000 (for 6+ years), other than weighting a ton they where great.

Bwteeen those and the Grafs I hac CCM 130 ZG skates, they performed great but the quality was complete garbage and they started falling appart after a few months.

Anyway that left me with a bad taste about CCM, so I will likely be buying Graf or Bauer. I haven't had Reebok skates but not a fan of their other equipment qality either.

Question 1: Fit: I have fairly narrow heel/feet but large ankle bones and high arch/instep, the G735 worked good for that, I think the Bauer should too at least heel-wise, not sure about in-step, any comments ?

Question 2 : I was thinking Bauer APX2 but they seem out of stock evrywhere(~9D) so maybe the vapor X500 or Supreme One 7 skates, any comments on those, in particular compared to the Grafs (I'm aware of the pitch/radius difference).

Question 3 : Are "newer" Grafs such as the 9035 more comparable to the supreme (ie: stiffer) ? Should I stick with Grafs, they don't seem to be as high qiuality as they use to ?

For reference I'm 38, played hockey since I'm 21, but did much skating before that. I usually play center and am 6'1 / 190. Skating is my strongest skill, I skate hard and fast. I play intermediate+ leagues all year usually about 2 or 3 times a week.

Thanks.

If you want the similar feel to your older Graf's I would try and find a pair of the same skates on line new. I am betting they are out there. Or try VH as it is pitched the same. If your going Bauer go down a few models to get the similar feel.

You can go for a high end Bauer but to get a similar feel, aside from pitch, you will need use something like a 55 flex. This will give you the forward flex that comes from wearing the softer Graf skate. I have recently given up on my G5 Ultras and switched permanently to mx3's (and currently trying some apx2's). Whatever I eventually choose, to get the same Graf feel I have used a 55 flex like product.
