Inserting padding in non-padded front of hockey pants.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so I was wondering if there's any products or DIY options to add padding to the front of pants where there is no padding. The area that is between the hip pads and above the thigh pads (excluding the cup). I blocked a shot there last night and realized there is absolutely no padding, just the stretchy material. Thanks!

You could definitely stitch some padding in there if you desire, but the question is, would this new material, which isn't all that flexible, impact your stride or inhibit any other movements?

I have an old pair of sliding shorts from baseball that I'm thinking about ripping the padding out of, and then layer two together and stitch those into the pants. I'm thinking they shouldn't inhibit my stride. I'm just surprised after looking that there are no products that protect this area, because it really hurts to get hit there, lol.

I hear what you're saying. I've been hit with a shot in the same spot. It doesn't tickle. I'd say test out your theory with the baseball shorts. Put a basic stitch in them to get an idea of how they would impact the area with protection and movement. If it seems good to you, then fully stitch them into place. You can't go wrong with a little trial. Worst case scenario you rip the padding out. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.
