Under Armour Storm Visor

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any experience with this? Looks like they are pretty new and have both a vented and straight across version. Trying to get a feel for how tall the visor is, as I am looking for a visor with coverage that goes as far down as possible.

On another note, any recommendations? Is the Oakley VR924/VR910 going to be my best bet as far as getting coverage down almost to my mouth?

I don't have experience with the UA brand, but it looks decent. As for the Oakley models, traditionally aviator cuts tend to cover the most amount of face. You'll find there are some visors that stop at nearly the end of your nose (most straight cuts) and others that completely cover the nose and then some.  The longest visor I've found, and have seen in person, is a Bauer model simply labeled half shield (http://www.hockeymonkey.com/equipment/helmets/hockey-cages-shields/bauer-hockey-rbe-1-half-shield-certified.html). It's not the prettiest looking visor, but it covers quite a lot without being a full face shield.  Is this going to be your first visor?

Thanks, I will have to check that one out.

Yes, it will be my first visor, I want to give one a try over the cage for comfort and visibility but would still like as much coverage as possible. A guy on my team has the VR910 (the aviator) and it has pretty great coverage, I guess I figured the VR924 would be just as long but more coverage in the middle since it doesn't have the aviator cut out? But it seems like from what I have read it is a little bit shorter overall.

Really wish there was somewhere with a decent comparison on  shields. There was one on here from a while back but it didn't have the newer Oakley models or UA Storm and it is kind of hard to visualize unless you see it on someone.

Yeah. Good point. I've seen a chart somewhere before as well. The chart I have seen depicted the aviator being the longest in the section that isn't curved. That was across the board with the different types of cuts. I was going through the same debacle when I bought mine recently. I opted to go with the straight cut. I get pretty decent coverage. It comes down to just below the tip of my nose. No fogging and pretty clear.

As a point of reference, the measurements for some popular visor types are available in the visor descriptions of these http://zealhockey.com/visors/. While these aren't the visors we've mentioned above, they are the common shapes from above. This would give you an idea of coverage. Straight cut is 3.5 inches tall. Aviator is 5 inches.
