Practice surface size and drills?

Recommended Posts

I'm piecing together my off-ice stick/puck handling practice area and have a few questions:

1)  What size practice surface would you recommend for handling drills only (no shooting)?  24" x 48"?  36" x 48"?  Something else?  I would assume bigger is better but don't want to go any bigger than needed/recommended as I'll be moving the surface in and out of a storage spot anytime I decide to use it.

2)  Do you have any insight as to what drills to run on said handling pad?  Maybe a link to a video or a guide of some sort?

I started to experiment on the tile floor inside our house (we don't have a basement)... that lasted all of about 5 minutes before the boss threatened to shove my stick... (you can imagine how this conversation went)

Coach Jeremy of "How To Hockey" and "The Hockey Movement" on YouTube has plenty of material.  Believe he now has an app as well for stick handling drills.

Where are you setting up the surface?  There are some flooring tiles that can be "run over", so if you have a garage, you may not need to move the surface around.

Believe Jeremy recently posted a "L-shaped" set up recently that looked like a great use of space.

Not the video I was looking for, but similar idea:
