Pervious generation Vapor x700 skate question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, quick question about the previous generation Vapor X700 skates (from the line with the 1st generation 1x as the top model).  These were the ones that Bauer described as having a "pro level tech mesh quarter construction"(same material as the x:60, x7.0 and x90).  Once you made the jump up to the x800 you are in a curv boot.

My question is that with the exception of the TPU outsole and the LS1 steel, is the x700 boot itself the same as the older top end tech mesh vapors (x:60, x7.0, x90)?

I am currently just starting to use my last pair of tech mesh vapors (x7.0s) and now that the current line has no tech mesh and finding new pairs of x:60, 7.0, 90s is nearly impossible, I was wondering if the last gen x700 would be as close as I can get.  I found a pair for sale brand new in my size for under 200.  I figured the outsole is probably not overly noticeable and i can put my usual ls2 steel on the x700s as long as the rest of the boot is exactly what I would expect coming from the old tech mesh skates I loved so much.  I cannot afford custom nexus v-cuts so just trying to figure out if my assumptions on the x700 boot are correct.

Please help msh!

The X700 is going to be heavier than your x7.0, but it is a pretty nice skate.  I'd say the closest comparison would be the x80.

Thanks!  As long as it is pretty similar in feel/stiffness a few extra grams of weight are not a deal breaker for me.  I assume the extra weight comes from the thicker tongue and the non-full composite outsole on the x700?

I only skated in the x7.0 a handful of times, and only tried on the x700.  In my opinion there isn't much difference in stiffness, but then again I don't like an overly stiff skate, so I might not be the best judge of that.  Can't say for certain, but I think it's a reasonable guess that the features you mentioned are the reason for the increased weight.

Im gunna try to grab the pair of x700s I found in my size based on this feedback.  I always like to have a skate in reserve just-in-case something were to break on my current pair so I dont want to wait until my only tech mesh option is custom nexus v-cuts.  Looks like I am getting these brand new for 170 plus 20 shipping so at that price it is probably worth jumping on.

That's a pretty good deal.  If you don't like them, you should be able to flip them for pretty much what you paid.

For what it's worth, I talked to a buddy that went from x7.0 to s180 to x700.  He is happy with the x700.
