brandonthequick 13 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 Hello, I currently wear MX3 size 9D. They are a TINY bit too big and by a little I literally mean a little... There is a deal for a pair of 1S skates for 499 shipped.... Does the new tongue make them fit tighter? Also is the boot shape the same? and last question (probably the most important one) is it worth upgrading from MX3 to 1S for 499? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! puckpilot 312 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 When I was shopping for skates a while back, I tried on the MX3s and the S190s and found on the MX3s there was a pressure point at the forefoot where the toe box meets the skate. This is a common issue for me because of my wide feet. But when put on the S190s in the same size and width, that pressure point wasn't there. So from what I can tell there are differences in the boot shape. When you say your current skates are a tiny bit too big, how tiny is tiny? I believe a half size is 0.4 cm so if it's bigger than that, then you're in the wrong size skate. If you're not sure, getting yourself sized up properly at a place that knows what they're doing might be a good idea. Otherwise, I found the thicker tongue on the Supremes took up more volume around the instep area, which according to the skate fitter at my LHS, not everyone liked. Some complained it gave them lace bite. Also, a thicker tongue may fix the tighter fit issue, but it will only be temporary. As the tongue wears and absorbs sweat, it will compress, and you'll end up exactly in the same spot in probably six months or so. One thing you might want to look into is power foot inserts. They'll take up space in the toe box and make the skates feel more snug. They're a tad pricey, but you could make your own out of foam or silicon gel pads to test out before you commit to anything expensive. Also if all it takes is a thicker tongue to make things better, you could just look for a way to thicken up your current tongue, either by adding more padding or you could try gel lace bite pads. They fit on to the inside of the tongue and take up some volume.
