Destroying skates when tieng them up too hard

My ankle is very small and I need to tie up the skate very hard that Imam not squishy in it. Am I destroying the skates then?

Perhaps the skate doesn't fit? I have a wide forefoot and narrow ankles and find it hard to find skates.
