NY Rangers buy out Lundqvist's contract

In an unsurprising but nonetheless difficult move to make, the Rangers bought out Henrik Lundqvist’s contract on Wednesday.

“Few players have been as important to the Rangers franchise as Henrik Lundqvist, and we are incredibly grateful for all he has done for our organization,” Rangers owner James Dolan said in a statement. “Over his 15-year tenure, he not only established himself as one of the best goaltenders to ever play the game, he has also been one of hockey’s fiercest competitors and most effective ambassadors. He will always be a part of the Rangers family.”

They have two younger goalies who are good. They could trade him to a team that needs a good back-up goalie, but that would be sort of insulting. Not sure if he's going to look for a new team to play with, become a goalie coach or retire.

It makes sense but it will still be weird to see the Rangers play and Hank not be in the crease. Regardless, the Rangers have an exciting future starting with the 2020 NHL Draft to start off the anticipated 2020-21 seaason.
