Skate Runner help

Recommended Posts

Hello All, for those that work in a hockey shop - I have a pair or OG Hyperlite skates in size 8.5 fit 3 which came with size 280 Tuuk holders. However, I noticed that In all previous Bauer models (both lines) size 8.5 skates have size 272 holders.

first question: did Bauer actually increase the size of the boot for example: a size 8.5 Hyperlite skate is actually bigger than a size 8.5 older model Bauer skate?

second question: would there be any consequences to flipping out the size 280 holders and putting in a pair of 272?

many thanks in advance!

Boot size should be the same new vs. old.  Since Fit 3 is their widest fit, many manufacturers are opting to put a longer runner on wider skates under the assumption that it will help with stability.  Going down to a 272 will increase agility (turning radius, etc.) but reduce stability and top line speed (less steel on the ice).

All half size Bauer skates have a +1 holder if you are a FIT3.

Example:

Size 6-6.5 Fit1 or Fit2 are a 254, Fit3 is a 263

Size 7-7.5 Fit1 or Fit2 are a 263, Fit3 is a 272

Size 8-8.5 Fit1 or Fit2 are a 272, Fit3 is a 280
