You know those little white packets that say "THROW AWAY DO NOT EAT" that comes with a brand new pair of shoes? Are the ones that come in food packages (ex. instant noodles) the same thing? Just wondering.

no!... seasoning comes with instant noodles.... the silca packs are to absorb excess moisture

we learned this in chem class, anhydrous compounds are put in these bags to absorb excess moisture, since too much moisture ruins leather

er. hopefully not, its just that some foods will only keep if they're dry... nothing comes to mind now, but stuff like crackers would ideally use these things... you wouldn't want any soggy soda crackers would you? :P

The packages that come with shoes are to keep moisture out, yes, but the packges in noodles are spiced...you make the noodles, and put the spices in...do all you guys eat your noodles plain or something?

no, that's not what i mean, there are foods that use silica packs to keep them dry. for example, these japanese seaweed snacks that my parents got, there was a silica packs.

Yea, that's the stuff I'm talking about. But like, the silica packs that come with my shoes are in an opaque package. Whereas seaweed and some instant noodles sometimes come with these silica packs with clear packaging and you see see clear beads inside it.
