MyBoxersSayJoe 134 Report post Posted August 5 Had a billet that plays low-level pro and the team is sponsored by Warrior. I got the check the skates out in the spring. They were light, stiff, clean, and I'd honestly consider a pair if my current Bauer APX's ever die.
A2rhino 95 Report post Posted August 6 Got to try these on. Someone please help me. I have tried on, CCM's, True's and now Warriors. I have wanted to like these all and do for the most part, but for some reason I find myself going back to Bauers everytime. What is it about the fit of Bauer skates that just makes them feel the way that they do,

What is it about the fit of Bauer skates that just makes them feel the way that they do, To their credit (in some ways) Bauer hasn’t meaningfully changed the design of their boot in a long time, so you know what you’re getting. You’re gonna pay more each new model, but they are mostly just putting new branding on the outside, so if the fit works for you, it works for you.
A2rhino 95 Report post Posted August 21 Ive been in Bauer Supremes for many years. I have tried and even bought different skates such as Trues, Grafs and Eastons over the years and as I have found them to be comfortable, they just dont fit like a Bauer Supreme Skate. I was in a pair of One.9 Supremes up until the Machs were released. I recently bought a brand new (2nd pair) pair of Bauer Machs because I think that these have actually been my all time favorit skates. I tried on the shadows and they just felt a bit cheap for some reason. I have not tried the Fuse skates yet as I dont feel the need being that I have my NEW Machs. Can barely squeeze the ankle opening with one hand compared to other top of the line skates. But I still have great forward flexion without dropping eyelets or skipping the second eyelet like I’ve done with other skates. Not sure how much is actually due to the tongue or if it’s because the boot is cut lower. I agree and find it funny that the tongue and stiffness was the topic of conversation among influencers on the preproduction skates and now it’s all about comfort and lack of stitching The stiffness is what is holding me back from ever trying these. My feet have gotten beaten up over the all the years of me reffing that I practically need skates with multiple areas of negative space so that I can get through a game or two with minimal discomfort. The Dude 1 Report post Posted September 4 Just in case anybody is interested for purchase reasons, I now have more time on these skates. For comparison, I put the same profile on them that I'm used to on my other skates -- a quad 2. I normally use a 1/2 hollow, but as these skates, even with a longer holder, seem to skid out compared to my Trues, I've been using a 7/16 on them thinking that as I got used to them I would naturally move down later. I have to say I'm liking the skate more and more, but I'll be damned, they still seem to skid out when I really push them. I have two sets of steel, both have been cross-ground properly. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the boot. I will say these skates do allow for a lot more forward flexion and ankle articulation than anything on the market, in my opinion. I'm 46 and don't have the flexibility of my youth, but I can easily get into a mohawk with these or pop into a 10&2 with little effort. I can't do a mohawk with my Trues and figured it was just because my hips don't open up like that anymore. I'm actually now considering putting a Shift Max holder on these as that's what I'm used to and I have a lot of steel. The boot cut being lower is pretty great. Also, the holder on the Warrior is shorter than the Shift Max.

That's because Trues are built from a very unforgiving rock-hard carbon fiber shell.

Insofar as Bauer are re-using the same design, so are CCM and True. Looking at the "new" Vizion skates, I frankly cannot tell the difference between them and the old 100K Ribcors, other than perhaps the toe. Likewise for True, "neurofit" is a marketing term I've been seeing for years. "Co-molded" has been around since at least the TF9. Only once in a while does a big change come along: Graf 703, Mega Air 90, Bauer Vapor 8, Nike/Bauer ONE90... We're still basically in the ONE90 era. Brands tweak a bit here and there, but the general gist stays the same.
AnnaSwink 1 Report post Posted September 14 (edited) I replaced the stock toe cap with Powerfeet inserts to fix the negative space, and the boot feels much better. For checking out alternative stiffness options and price points, I’ve been ordering from HockeyHorizon Brands for my last few setups—they helped me find a good mid-range boot without the cheap feel. Asian Tomatoe 32 Report post Posted September 27 I saw this summary of the Alpha Pro skates on Bladetech’s page and noticed it mentions the holders aren’t mounted at perpendicular or 90 degrees. I guess Warrior/NB adjusted the holder angle slightly and might explain why people are having issues with grip using the same hollow. Not sure why they wouldn’t mention this more in their marketing…
A2rhino 95 Report post Posted September 30 I find it interesting that here we are, the begining of the NHL season and only one player will be rocking this so called AWESOME skate. I cant help but think that with over 700 players in the NHL and only one player will be in these at the begining of the year, thats not a good sign, Also considering they have been available to the pros to try now for well over a year and a half.

I also find this very curious. Especially considering its coming from an established brand with pro reps having long-term relationships with many pro players already. I'm not surprised at all. Players like what they're used to and if it ain't broken why fix it? Professional athletes are the biggest sticklers and superstitious when it comes to gear. Why change and get used to something different when there's no need to. We have to remember these athletes get custom everything if they want (especially skates) so most are using equipment that they have already dialed in. Those who have had issues finding the proper fit and feel with ccms and Bauer in the past are likely in true skates. There's really not much room for warrior especially at the pro level. I mean, they're still far behind Bauer and ccm for their other gear with respect to protective and sticks too from a % stand point in the NHL. I briefly tried the warrior skates in store and they were comfy but nothing special. Nothing stuck out to me vs my machs that made me feel like spending $1400 on the skates. And honestly, if I'm spending that much, I would have likely gone for the fuse. But this is retail so it's not really the same as pros and custom skates. A2rhino 95 Report post Posted October 1 (edited) I agree Sniper9 as I love my Machs. However, many guys have already transitioned to the new Vizion skate. I would have thought that Warrior would have had their star players in these skates sooner than later. I get many guys don't want to change what they have been using during the playoffs and finals. But here we are, beginning a new season with only one athlete reping the skates. That's gotta hurt. Edited October 1 by A2rhino

Did you know makar still wears 2s pros? At the NHL level, all these guys can get their skates to spec however they want from Bauer and ccm, especially the guys who are sponsored. Guys like Celebrini might look like he's wearing vizion skates but the guts could easily be jetspeeds etc. Or even a combination of whatever that isn't even close to anything retail. I could be wrong, but I doubt warrior even has the pro custom capabilities like Bauer and ccm at this point, and even if they did, their skates are still going to only appeal to people who have faults with what they're wearing currently.
