Well considering that Lemieux and Gretzky represent two of the financially weakest clubs, whose very existance may be hanging by a thread, it is not surprising to see those two spearheading a salvage operation. In fairness I believe both of them still harbour enough passion for the sport to be doing this whatever the financial ramifications would be.

The biggest thing they have working in their favor, is the threat of incredibly negative fan reaction to a failed negotiation which bankrupted the clubs of two of hockey's most famous personalities, and put them in the poorhouse.....

"Houston we have agreement"..season to be announced (or not) tomorrow. Apparently there is still a chance there will not be a season, although this is hard to believe, but agreement has been reached.
