I know this clearly has nothing to do with equiptment, but im just curious... so yeah, are ne of u guys from Australia or have travelled here for hockey? eg, Kelowna rockets Midgett AA ..

i lived in melbourne in 99. the competition was ok it was sad that the roller rink was better than any of the ice rinks!!! how come nobody can afford plexiglass!! instead of netting or chain link fencing??? top notch for partying though!!!!!!! would love to go back just for the partying !!!! hey cinastix do u know a rick cooper in perth??

Hey Vapor,

Do you plan on playing for the Ice bears or Ice Dogs? I hear they have a pretty good league down there (AIHL?).

I was in Melbourne and Sydney a year ago and had a blast. Next time I'm there I would definitely like to check out a few games.

Deerok, yeah, i plan on trying out for the Sydney Bears AIHL this year, its a pretty tough league though... Im currently playin Midgett AA and Nationals but im gonna give the AIHL a shot, even if i do get picked any midgetts playin AIHL pretty much get a half period of shifts only, cause were still young.. but hey, its all worth it! the bears website is www.sydneybears.com.au, they have just re done it so it mite be a bit empty, but our season starts next week and u can check out the schedule..

From what I have read it is pretty physical. I hope it keeps growing.

I have been following that league for a while. Who won the championship last season? The Icedogs?

By the way, how many rinks are in NSW/Sydney (just the one in Blacktown?)

Ice dogs Won the championships last yr, beat New Castle Northstars 3-1 in what has to have been one of the highest intensity games to ever come out of AUS.. and there are 6 rinks in NSW...

Next time I am down there I may play some pick up/stick time.

most local rink wud be castle hill, the Glaciarium, most expensive rink in Australia... its soooo nice! Its the bears home Ice..

Glad to see hockey is growing there. I figure it would, considering the following that contact sports like NRL, and the AFL have.

Nice; they seem to emphasize their import players. I also noticed two new teams...Brasbane, and Central coast. With no NHL, I will add the AIHL to my leagues to follow (along with the DEL, and Elitserien).

At this rate of expansion, I may have to try out : )

Awsome, the league is growing quite fast down here, they are even starting to televise the games on our number one channels... oh, and the reason we dont have plexi glass any more is because its now illegal! :o about 3 yrs ago a kid in my team got hit really hard and the glass expanded out and his wrist got trapt between the glass and boards, broke his hand, wrist and arm at the same time!! parents then sued and blah blah blah, it sux so much though! plexi is the bomb!
