Punishment for trying to get a deal done?

I don't know, it just seems like they're trying to make players and management as seprate of two entities as they can. Now, I'm guessing coaches fall on the players side here, and will be able to coach.

I read it as any team employee, that should make it interesting with coaching. Sutter reprising his role from the WJC team maybe?

Sutter wouldn't surprise me since I'm guessing you'll see a few players from that team. How many guys playing overseas will be available by say, early-mid april to run some sort of practices? I don't think the AHL guys who make the playoffs will be able to do it.

All of the guys playing in Europe should be available, those leagues end earlier than the NHL season normally does.

You'll probably see a few junior guys depending on how they do in the chl playoffs. But other than that I'm guessing it'll be guys playing in europe + random guys that have been playing no hockey at all like primeau and brodeur.

You'd be suprised at who will be in the Team Canada training camp, I have heard a few big name players who are already training for the championships.

The biggest hurdle is the insurance cost. Also, just heard on the Fan590 that the league has given Gretzky the approval to run the Canadian team which means that Pat Quinn may end up behind the bench although the coach right now is Mark Habscheid.

Looks to me like the NHLPA used Gretzky and Lemieux...

BTW, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the owners meeting, should be fireworks. The rumour is that Carolina, Atlanta and other teams in weak markets are the hardliners which are causing the lockout to continue. If this is true..... I can't even begin to put my anger in words.

i dont understand how lemieux and gretzky made things worse - from what i read it sounded like they didnt even get the chance to do anything

i could see them both just sitting quietly at the table while the 2 sides argued back and forth about the same old stuff they have been all along

That's funny, the other article said the NHL invited him to the meeting. In fact it said Bettman and Daly both called him to make sure he would be there. I don't believe any of them.
