is it similar to twisting? If a shaft torques up does that mean that one should go for a stiffer flex?

Yes, it's a twisting of the shaft. Going to a stiffer shaft when you experience twisting may resolve that issue but it may cause problems with your shot.

What I would like to see is a whippy shaft that doesn't torque, if that makes sense. Then the blade wouldn't open up as much, but you could shoot hard from more positions.
