Intermediate Stick with Good Flex

Recommended Posts

My 12 year old son needs to move up from a Junior to an Intermediate stick. However, the 75 flex on the Easton line is far too stiff for him. Are there any other Intermediate sticks with more whip than a 75 Easton stick? Ideally, something between a 50 and 75 flex?

Thank you.

The new '05 Easton line intermediate come in 65 flex now. If I were you though, get him a 2 piece or a wood stick. A one piece isn't going to do much for him. It's up to you and him, but thats my recomendation. I hope that this helped!

Thanks for your input. I can't find anything about this CCM 30KP light flex. Can you refer me to a catalog, website, etc.? What model stick does this flex come in?

If you are considering a shaft/blade combo I would suggest an '04 Sherwood Taper Flex. It is 65 flex, has a ton of whip behind it, and is definetely much more flexible than an Easton 75.

Thanks for your feedback. What would be a good composite blade to go with the Sherwood Taper Flex Intermediate 65 flex?

If your son likes Easton blades/patterns then I would suggest a Z-Carbon Blade. You need a standard blade so maybe a Bauer Vapor X? The selection of composite standard blades that I know of is limited.. I use Synthesis blades and love them, so I would go with a Z-Carb.

The Sher-wood website only lists 75 now. I do know a couple of adults who used the 65 a few years ago.

TPS's intermediate sticks have a rather whippy flex. They are comparable to an Easton

65 flex. If you are looking to go cheap, an Easton Typhoon w/ a wood blade would do just fine. I agree that at 12 year old a kid doesn't need a top of the line OPS that won't even help his game. I think that the only reason companies make junior sticks is so that kids can have the same equipment as their favorite players. It is just a marketing gig.

Easton's 2005 won't be released for another couple of months or so, TPS's Intermediate line is generally whippier around 60 flex so that could be an option. If longer height of the Intermediate is an issue, I would try Easton's 65 flex Ultra Lite which is a standard Junior shaft. Or if decide on Innos, 380 is a decent Int. flex too.

Which Intermediate stick has the most whip?

Intermediate Stealth 65

'04 Sherwood Taper Flex 65

TPS Intermediate

Innovative 380

CCM Vector Light 30KP

Thank you.

Most users find the Stealth to be about 10-15 less than whats printed. With that in mind I'd say the Stealth, but your also banking on this Int version being the same as the Sr. '04 models.

I think the new jr. ultra lites (w/ the metallic green paint) have become 55 flexes.

When I was younger I used to use the 65 jr. UL and it was the best stick I owned.

Easton, if you are listening. PLEASE PLEASE make an intermediate UL shaft.

But then again, I guess int. red lites would almost be the same thing.

Hespeler 900 Series Perfect Fit - Gold $19.99

http://www.peranis.net/prodHome.ihtml?sid=...pid=2426&dept=1

Although they refer to this as a junior stick, the Gold model is actually an intermediate and accepts senior blades.

Any idea how the flex (on the shaft that accepts senior blades) equates to the easton scale?

20 bucks is too nice to resist if the flex is right.

new easton line not released for a couple of months or so!? lol. okay... that sux for around you.

anyway, we just got them in the other day. i took some shots in our shooting range with the 65 flex and wow its kinda awesome. but for me if i took a slapshot with it would bust but wrists and snaps were effortless. so for kids moving from jr. to intermediate it is awesome. the SL's are fairly light and I was impressed with them. Will also have the Rbk stuff in some time this week... already seen it but will be good to finally sell it to the public

Why composite? He's most likely not strong enough to take advantage of the comp. blade. If anything, it'll hinder his game.

If I remember correctly from an old catalog (1800faceoff, perhaps), they showed that it had a 300 flex rating (assumed it was the Inno scale). The MSH Flex chart equates that with an 80 flex on the Easton scale. I'm not sure I agree. I have an intermediate Bauer TFG (77 flex) and intermediate TPS Rubber (75 flex). The Hespeler Gold seemed to have a little more flex. Maybe it's the kick point, I don't know. If I had to guess, I'd say 65-70. FYI, it has a low kick point, and a thin, rounded cross-section (vs. rectangular).

Peranis doesn't have these on the website, but some of the stores have old Nike Ignite Jr. sticks which range from 380-500 flex (guessing 50-70 Easton flex). They range from $10-$13. Haven't played with any of these, but I bought my eight-year-old one in the 500 flex--it's pretty flexible, even after I took off 4 inches.

Examples (these are on the stiffer end of that scale):
