Z-Bubble Flexing Wierd

Recommended Posts

Alright. I have a Z-Bubble paired with a Koho Revolution ABS Blade that I use in the driveway. When I take slapshots, the blade seems to "open up" when the stick is flexing. All of my shots go way to the right of the goal. The blade and shaft are fine, and show no sign of breakage. When I use any other stick with the same flex it is fine. Why is the blade opening up like that? Thank you for you replies!

ABS? I take it you're talking about the ones with the plastic insert, right?

If so, I have a Koho Revolution Fiber Hosel 4440 blade that also does that. It seems stiff in my hands, but I have also noted it "opening up" when shooting.

Try this - try putting the toe of the blade against the ground so the tip or the blade is flush against the ground. Push (lightly - don't break anything) against the tip a few different ways and see if the blade tourques or the shaft. My guess (unless you've overworked the shaft and it's fatiqued) is that it's the blade.

I noted the same thing myself with mine. Looking at it again, I'd guess it's the wood hosely part that's causing the torque rotation on shooting (which causes the blade to open a bit - especially if you're using the redesigned Jagr curve that's more of a toe. Likely has to do with leverage).

Of course, I'm already one bourbon into the night, so I could be wrong... just one guy's opinion....

this could also be from not holding your stick tight enough. most people dont even notice when they arent holding it tightly enough. if your other stick that you talk about in your post has a grip surface to it, that may be why. because you arent used to having to hold your stick tightly. if not just try holding it tighter anyways or keep your blade closed more on your shots.

Thank you for your replies. Yeah ogie, it is the ABS with the plastive insert. I am using a Jagr curve. My blade does have the fibre hosel, and that could be it.

Hunter- I am holding the stick right because with anyother stick, it shoots just fine.

The Koho Fiber Hosel ABS 4440 thing is VERY thin.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Jagr torques more than another curve might made out of the same material. Simple physics of the longer, straighter part of the blade would equate to more force being delivered to the end (simplistically speaking, this is the science behind crow bars and tourque wrenchs).

If the curve was distibuted earlier and more gradually over the length of the blade, it's possible that it wouldn't twist/tourque as much.

BUT.... all that being said... YES, I have noticed that the thin, Koho, Plastic fiber blade tends to open up a bit when leaning on it hard in shooting (such as taking slapshots or what not).

This will probably be even more noticeable when using stiffer shafts (just one guy's opinion - not basing that on any sort of science or experience).

Could it be that its not the shaft? Could it be the blade? I know the ABS blade I use is really thin and flexible, and whenever I take a slapshot or something the blade flexes too. Not like the hosel part of it, but the actual blade itself. It could just be the blade.

Yeah thanks to Ogie, I've figured out that its most likely the blade. The ABS blades do seem to be thinner than other types of blades. Thank you all for you replies!

I know my buddy has problems inserting some Koho blade into his Easton Grip Lite shaft. To the point where the blade itself just fell out during a game.

Yeah. The blade is continuily getting looser. When I bought the blade, it seemed that there wasn't enough glue, so I took some glue off of one of my old knobs, but that didn't help too much.
