Summer training for hockey

Hey guys,

The end of season is coming and I'm already planifying a training program for this summer.

But I would like to know what you will do this summer for your hockey training?

If it is the schedule I posted, for pushups or situps pyramid up means starting with a lower number, like 10, doing 10, then 15, then 20, then 25, and pyramid down means the exact opposite.

I will use Peter Twists "Complete Conditioning for Ice Hockey" and Tudor Bompa's Total hockey conditioning as main guidlines. These two are the best you will find in hockey training and they show everything you need to know in those books including plyometrics, weight training, all conditioning, eating, speed/ agility drills, etc.

A certain someone on MSH is suppose to train hard this summer too and hopefully we can keep each other motivated.

Does it provide training schedules?

YES, in the Tudor Bompa( Total hockey conditioning).

Yes the Training Manual was originally posted by kosydar about 2 years ago. I really want to say thanks for it because without it I don't know what team I would have been on!

With that schedule, you'll only get out of it what you put into it. If you half ass it like my team has done for the past two years, its a complete waste of time. But I'm glad that some have taken it seriously and it has worked.

Question for all of you guys who are a little more knowledgable than me on this one...If I was to follow those manuals, Peter Twist and the manual SeanMccann posted, would it be helpful in putting on weight, or staying in shape. I want to put on 15 pounds (or in that range) so I am in need of a starting point.

I think your 13 or 14 years old. In Total hockey conditioning, there is a year-round fitness programs for pee-wee and bantam. So it should be very helpful to stay in shape and put on some weight...

im going to work out with the VICTOR training thing and the smart hockey lecavier cd

I like the VICTOR system, I started using it myself.

Thanks Kovy, they built a gym on the golf course my summer house is on so I have the facility, just need to put it together and beefer up.

I've got a Work-out routine out of a Special Edition Mens Fitness mag. I'm going to give it a shot for 4 weeks (a 4 week, then 3 week program.. 7 total) and if I like it I'll stick with it, if not I'll go back to that Philly trainers guide. I am also going to try and use my rollerblades for every form of transportation except going to and from hockey, and road trips.

but the ice rinks arent closed, are they ?

in germany from april till september the icerinks a closed and there is just rollerhockey (at least in my town)

i was thinking about a summer vacation in canada to practice my on-ice skills...

but i guess its too expensive.

Zak, In my town, There is only one ice rinks in the summer. The rest are all closed untill end of july. I was talking about an off-ice training. I also do A LOT of roller hockey in the summer. Some will say it's not good, but it's very good for myself.

You might want to also consider a couple different programs. For me, I start out the offseason cutting to look good for summer and so I add a higher ratio of lean muscle to fat when I start to put on weight. For specific programs, try bodybuilding.com and search for gladiotor or hockey, and a 3 part program will come up. And always remember- RUN SOME DAMN HILLS - anaerobic endurance, aerobic endurance, leg and core power, and similar to angle (depending on the hill) of a skating stride.
