The stride on roller is slightly different from ice. However, you are still using the same muscles for skating so it is a good way to keep your legs in skating shape. You will notice that the roller game moves a little bit slower than ice.

lol alot slower. But it really does help you with puck handling but before you go back on the ice go to a couple of open skates and try and shoot around because you well feel very weird at tryouts or the beginning of your season.

i think it helps both puck handling and shooting accuracy, for you have much more time for both. skating wont improve, but it wont hurt it either - as long as you do you what the above poster says and go ice skating a few time prior to starting your next ice season. i think roller is a great way to work on improving puck skills.

It will help puckhandling, skating skills(maybe not the speed, but the sharp turn, pivot, etc), shooting accuracy, patience(learn to read the game), vision of ice, etc.... I think roller help me a lot on my skates since I play this sports every night in the summer. For the skating speed, it may not help you but it will not hurt for sure.

Have fun...

The rinks there aren't open all year round?

Here in Florida of all places, the rinks are open all year round with summer hockey leagues both youth and adult.

lol alot slower.

Lap times for an XIHL semi pro team during skills competition:

Rink size: 195 x 85

Slowest lap time: 16.1

Fastest lap time: 14.1

Actually their fastest skater was hurt and only turned a 14.6, with a major charlie horse....it's possible he might have broken the 14 sec. mark if healthy.

slower? maybe, depending on how it's played, but in terms of pure skating speed, not all that much slower.

what are the laptimesimes in ice-hockey?

... in order to compare

Mid 13 seconds to low 14 sec. times have been the winning times at the NHL skills competitions over the last 12 years or so.

But remember these times I showed for the inline team were for one team only, not all the best players in the league. If their fastest skater was not injured with a charlie horse, he would probably have broken the 14 second mark.
