Blade Holders

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of 705’s size 7.5 R that have been sitting in my bag since September. I just could not get used to the aggressive heel lift so I opted for my Air 90’s and the standard Tuuk holders. My Bauers are destroyed, the tendon guard is gone, the flex point is beginning to tear and the arches have dropped, now before I run off and buy a pair of 8090’s I want to give my Graf’s a second chance. I skated in them yesterday and had them punched out quite significantly. As a result I am unable to make sharp turns. I am considering replacing the Cobra’s with a Tuuk and a thinner lift but the Tuuk’s are shorter than the Cobras. My LHS suggest I try out Bauer’s new Lightspeeds. The increased height does sound like would help me with my turns but I have not heard very much about the durability as I am skeptical about having such large holes in the holder. Also, are do these new holders have an integrated heel lift or would I have to add something back there?

LS is 3mm taller than Tuuk.

I have never seen any problems with the LS holder itself. The steel problems look to have been corrected.

Do you know if the Lightspeeds, like the old Tuuks, place your weight towards your heel or would a heel lift be necessary?

Would it be possible to insert a 3mm lift up front on regular Tuuks to compensate for the height difference with the Lightspeed then add a ~5mm lift in the rear? I need a taller holder.

Thanks JR, one more question and I'll quit bugging ya.

The 705 has a plastic outsole. Would drilling extra holes to accomodate the Tuuk holders have an adverse effect on the stiffness of the sole thereby shortening the lifespan on the boot?

Just make sure that the new holes are not drilled right next to the graf holes making a large hole too big for the diameter of the rivet. The holder can then "shift" on the skate, causeing torqueing, bent blades, out of alignment problems.

Hey I am using 705's right now too until I get my Synergy skates and I have the same problems, I've used Vapor xx's before with the lightspeeds on them and turning was way easier...those Cobra holders are not that great at all, its no wonder every pro that has a Graf skates switches them...
