So.....anyone here with Flexlite 12's have the eyelets rip out yet? I'm just curious because the 12's are one of the only skates that seem to fit me well and I'm doing some research :).

I have had the original V-12s since around the time they came out (maybe 2 years?) and have not had any problems with the eyelets. Actually I have a cut near the top eyelet on one of my skates and it has not shown any signs of weakening. I have seen or heard of more problems with the eyelets on Vectors than any other skate. I had 4 friends buy Vectors and they all pulled the eyelets out within the first 3 or 4 months. Next spring I will try out the Supreme One90s and if they do not work then I will just pick up a pair of the current Flexlites.

The biggest problems I have had with my current V12s has to do with the lining material. First, it can be a bit slippery. Second, the material is wearing away and some of the inner pieces of the boot are coming through. The new Flexlites have a different liner (I believe it is the same as the 8090 liner) so these issues seem to have been solved by Bauer.

Hmm....that's good to hear. I would hate to drop that much money on skates only to have an eyelet rip out.

I've had V-12s before and Flexlite 12s now with no eyelet problems on either. If you want your eyelets to last on any skate, be sure to dry the skate after each use and also pull outward on the laces (directly out the eyelet hole) vs cranking upward against the inner edge of the eyelet.

So if I have my leg fully extended, toe up, and pull towards my body I won't have a problem? That's how I do it and I have never, ever broken an eyelet (or DNA strap).

I tryed on the 10's and 12's at greatskate today. They are ALMOST identical. Anyway, They are very snug out of the box. They have nice liners and have a confortable upper support/stiffness. I can see the differance between the 10 and 12's, believe me.....its not $120 worth of differance. The 12's have a thiner tounge, but its not that great considering if you take a puck to the upper tounge your done. The outter material is smoother on the 12's as well but nothing special. The last thing that the 12 offers that the 10 doesnt is the sole is carbon-like on the bottom.....again, nothing worth a extra 120 for. The fit is the exact same on both, very snug. The boot is molded with a nice curve around your ankles, its basically the shape you aim for when baking accept its already done :) . The funny thing is that theres no way of knowing if someone will be wearing 10's or 12's because they look nearly identical. The lable for the model is in the upper right corner of the tounge witch will be coverd by your socks anyway. Id say the Flexlite 10's should sell very well being priced $260 at greatskate, $380 for the flexlite 12's.

Also, as JR mentioned; the eyelets on the 12's did seem weak compared to the 10's.

Hope this helped someone,

CaptainZbubble

I have the 12's and they are worth the extra $120. The liner on the 12's is clarino...10's don't have clarino. Plus the 12's have the perforated steel...10's don't. the upper part of the tongue you are talking about that doesn't have protection on the 12's should be under your shin guard anyway...in most cases. I know mine is and i use shin guards that are a little small for me because i am too cheap to buy new ones cause the ones i have are perfectly fine.

That has nothing to do with width, given the width is correct. Radius, sharpening hollow, and blade rocker will influence turning.

I keep hitting the wide toe caps on my v-12's making hard cross overs or tight hockey turns. I guess the build on my vapor XX's was just easier to skate with in turns. Maybe it's that I'm lacing my skates up all the way and possibly hindering my ankle flex.

i have not had any problem with my skating in these skates sense i have bought them. i have skated on mission pure flys and on bauer vapor xx, and now on the fl12's. no problem what so ever with the to box being to wide when crossing over. def sound like the skates might be a bit too stiff, imo.

these are the best skates i have bought out of the box yet. they are the only ones that have fot my foot without having to have them streched. the bauer heel on the vapor fits well but the toe box is a little too narrow. these were great from the second i put them on. i would highly suggest this to people with regular heels and wide fore foot.

i have a few questions about the 12's because i have a chance to get a pair for almost nothing.

I was wondering if the boot is cut like a vector pro. i know its a "deep" fit but is the vector pro considered a deep fit as well? the vector pros fit me great, but i need a new pair of skates and i can get nikes for below wholesale.

and if they're not cut like vectors, what are similiar skates to the Flexlite series?

so do you think it will be a hard transition? i can also get bauer skates from my guy, would i be better off with vapor series?, or ever supremes? ive never had a bauer skate before.

btw

i guess i like a softer boot with an agressive foward angle and flex.

sorry if i sound like an idiot, i just play hockey, im no equipment guru.

Could you get Mission skates from him? Seems like a S500 would fit the bill. Softer but more supportive boot for ankle movement, and pitch holder so you can adjust how far you lean forward.

no, its only a bauer/nike thing cause my uncle is going to get it through some district manager or something

but if im not going to like them then i might just look into some s500's if they're better for me. too bad because i think i can get a pair of bauer or nikes for like 60 bucks.

Tyler, is that a Megadeth avatar you got there?

Cover of the Rust in Peace album if I'm not mistaken. I remember waiting up to see the video for Hangar 18 on Headbangers Ball before we went out that night.
