Question, Installing new holders

Recommended Posts

I'm goin to be buying new skates in the next few weeks. The skates I'm considering are the Bauer xxx, Grafs, and Easton Synergy. If i do buy these skates, i'm goin to change the holder. So my question is does the new tuuks, cobra, and easton holders line up with the traditional tuuk?

Because i dont' trust any of the local pro shops here in nyc with drilling new holes in the skates. Bauer xxx i'm not too concerned about actually but i know that i definitely don't want to skate on easton or graf holders.

Sports Plus has the guy who used to work at Hobby Den doing Skate Repairs and New Holder Installations. I heard nothing but good things about him. I wouldn't go to Cosbys or Wonderland to do it though. But definately think about Sports Plus.

Why not make your decision easy, save $100 and just get the XXX's? Avoid the whole holder mounting altogether. But if you insist on Eastons or Grafs, have your shop cusom order them with the holders NOT attached. This way, virgin holes can be drilled in the boots. I just put a pair of E RPL holders on a pair of new Grafs with no holders attached. The job was so much neater and easier.

If he lets the Cobra to the shop and just exchange for the tuuk, I think it will not cost a buck. That's what my LHS did to me at least.

yeah, nobody in nyc really knows what they're doin in terms of skate repair and what not. Cosby's is ok with the normal rivet replacement. But the people doin skate repair are usually high school kids who needs a job and does not play hockey. So they really have no idea what's important.

Sports plus is a bit out of the way for me. I live in manhattan and sports plus is like an hour away.

Trading holders is also not an option because nyc is all about greed. I offered the store the new tuuks on the xxx if i bought them if they were willing to give me a pair of tuuk custom +. They said no, that i would have to buy the custom +.

Now why would a shop take the crap Cobra's in on a swap for anything else?

NO one ever comes in ASKING to replace a Cobra holder. Dust collector for sure.
