  1. With the snug fit around the ankles - do the true skates limit your ability to fully extend your stride when skating?
  2. my son is 11 and is currently in apx2. pretty stiff boot. Thinking of getting these for him. I like what I am seeing here. one foot is a half size bigger than other, so the custom sizing will help any other suggestions?
  3. My son is 11 and is 85lbs soaking wet. he was on 100/50 til this summer when I switched him to 90/75 with the soft ice. Personally, I was thinking he was too light for the 90/75, but he loves it. Once winter comes, will need to see if the hard ice becomes a factor. If so, might go back to 100/50 or what would be a cut between 100/50 and 90/75 to try?
  4. It would be nice to see how even the edges are after you take it out of the machine. Maybe use an HDI skate gauge to show the even edges and the depth of the hollow.
  5. I use an HDI skate gauge and it measures the level and depth to .001 of an inch which is pretty accurate. In terms even edges for FBV...anyone have experience on what is an acceptable range to be considered? (+/- .001)?
  6. OK. What would be faster then.....100-50 or 90-75? My son skates on 100-50 and overall likes it but was wondering if I went to a 90-75 it would be little more speed/glide?
  7. My 9 year old son tried the 100/50 and likes the cut with the grip, but would like to try something with a little more edge. Should I try the 100/75 or the 95-1?
  8. No, did not have it profiled. Just sharpened them. So far...no problems.
  9. Just bought some Bauer Vapors for my mite son (size 2) about a month ago...He was on Reebok. He skates a lot...about 4-5 times a week. Couldn't believe that the LS2 steel could not go more than 2-3 skates before I needed to sharpen them. Normally the old Reebok steel lasted 5-7 times before it needed to be sharpened. Luckily, I have an x-01. Talked to Midwest skate and picked up some Step steel (220) blades and he tried them out for the first time today. He loved them. Told me that edges felt more solid and turning was better than his old blades. This was with the 10 ft stock profile. Glad I made the switch.
  10. Curious on the percentage of NHL players using FBV ??? Keep hearing that all the teams have the capability. But, how many players on each team are using it?
  11. Anyone with feedback on the Ruby wheel for the X series?
  12. Yes, spinner too tight is probably the problem - it happened to me too. My solution to loosen up the spinner was to remove the spinner wheel and remove the c-clip, which will revealed a wavy spring washer that supplies pressure to keep the spinner from spinning too much. I flattened the spring washer slightly to reduce the pressure on the spinner. After that, the spinner spins more freely and the lines became small enough to be a non-issue. I still feel like the finish could be a touch better, but its as good as any of the local guys ever did and I don't think I'll do much better until they come out with finer wheels for the X series. Thanks. I spoke with Blackstone. They said to push the spring washer down with my thumb for a minute and it should help. So, I took some pliers and held it down for 2 minutes. The spinner actually spun this time. You are right the finish could be a bit better but I will settle.
  13. Just bought an XO1 a few weeks ago. I noticed that I am not getting a smooth finish on the blade. Basically, there are lines/grooves going parallel on the skate. I have even edges though. I noticed my spinner is barely moving when dressing the wheel. Are the lines a result of the spinner not moving freely? And, if so, how do I get it loosen up?
