I'm amazed to see you think 45 minutes each way is acceptable.  😉  I got a Sparx because I didn't want to travel 20 minutes (including highway) each way.  Every time I go upstairs to the machine, I joke to my wife - I'm headed to the pro shop.  And I'm back in 5 minutes.

Agreed. I got mine partly because I was tired of bad sharpenings, but also tired of the sporadic hours the pro shop was even open. Even during hours posted on the sign sometimes they'd just randomly be closed. Also being a goalie I'm needing a freshening up pretty much every skate or two. I hate the "fresh sharpen after not doing it in way too long" feeling.

You could always fit your own chin cup ,what worries me is if the toe of the stick can fit thru the cat's eye?

If you were concerned about total fluke outcomes that would be honestly difficult to pull off, you'd just wear a normal cage. Same for cat eye cages for goalie masks.

The suspension system on the shins is cool, reminds me of my old RBK 6Ks which I loved.

That being said - the high thigh guard on these is a dealbreaker for me. I love my FT4 Pro shins and one of the best aspects of them is that the thigh guard barely extends above the kneecap. The ones that extend too far always get caught on my pants which I find absolutely infuriating to deal with mid skate. Back in the day I would just cut them off RBKs/Jofas or opt for something like a Nexus shin that let you adjust it down to “zero”.

I don't understand why theres no elastic strap on that flap like there is on the same flap on referee shins. It's so much better!

I thought none of the manufacturers actually make a physical last of your feet for customs unless you're a special order (i.e. pro hockey player).  I was under the impression that True used a 3D scan in conjunction with a base last and then adjust and build accordingly.  I didn't think they actually make a physical 3D last from your foot scans.  But again, I'm not sure of this.

Sort of. It is very likely done in the same way as a bespoke dress shoe, if you've ever seen that before. That take a similar last, add material to it, and then shave off material to get the exact shape. So it has a generic "core" but the shoe is absolutely molded to your exact foot shape. The entire last does not need to be bespoke to get an exact shape because the last can be altered with material. So I kinda cringe when I hear people say that using an off the shelf last doesn't equal a custom fit.

Here's a good video detailing the bespoke shoe lasting process using an existing last:

Try some "Bone Conduction" Bluetooth headphones. They don't block off the ear canal like earbuds do. If you keep the volume reasonable you should still be able to hear what's going on around you. They may or may not work with your helmet/mask.

Considered that, though thats one reason I loved the original airpods so much. They stayed in, and I had no problem hearing the world around me. I mean, at the expense of audio quality :62_dizzy_face:

I've never actually tried a pair of bone conduction headphones. Maybe I should.

  6. Even if you were using USA Hockey rules, you as a league have the right to override them. That said, I would 100% ban earbuds while playing. There's just no reason to do it, and its a safety hazard both for the person wearing them (can't hear) as well as others if they fall out and get stepped on. I'm in total agreement with your league in banning them.

That said, I have definitely considered wearing them while playing goal in pickup but never during a game. I kinda thought about mounting some motorcycle/ski helmet style speakers to the ear hole area of my mask for pickups lol

Do any of these companies work with factories in america and/or places with verifiable labor & wage conditions?

(not looking for a discussion on said issues, just asking about production locations)

I'm not sure where exactly 5ivehole has their stuff made, but their turnaround time is way faster than any other company I've ever worked with.

Probably all comes down to the rink and league's insurance policies.  My league plays in about 10-12 rinks so when one rink makes a stink about something the league has to notify all of the teams (usually something more like beer in the locker room/parking lots but a couple years ago it was about helmet straps and needing them to be buckled, also they tried the "no tilting visors up" thing one time which lasted for about 3 weeks).

We just had a player get called for a minor penalty for the visor tilt in a low level beer league game. Nevermind that the rulebook has no such minor penalty...
