Scott will fix any issues you have, should you run into a problem. He remade my boots after I had a toe box issue and he covered it under warranty.

they sell junk anyways i don't know why this is such a big deal
But they do it cheaply and that ticks the box for most people here.

Anybody know of a shop that'll order customs from someone out of town? Just want liner changes and quarter sizing options. Nobody near me does it.
-
Very disappointed with the styling of the Nexus skate line. Looks like I'll be close out shopping for 1000s...
-
What size are those pro tacks??

Working a squirt game is more like open skate than you realize. You can get away without a girdle for your first few years of officiating.
-
You must use shin tights -- they keep your pants from getting hung up in your tendon guards.
-
Yeah, hard plastic. Just use your playing shin guards for now.
For a helmet, I use a 4500 with an Oakley visor. It's a low-profile helmet that lots of guys use because it looks clean. I took the logos off and it's a keeper.

Whistles: Personal preference. The fox and acme whistles are both good. I use acme because the fix can get a bit shrill when you really hit it hard.
Pants are not a place you want to skimp. Skate and stick blades shred pants easily, and you often don't notice. I'd highly recommend the Stevens shell pant (non-padded). The CCM nylon pants tend to be very warm.
Your choice of elbow and hip pads is good. Several guys I know have the Stevens shin guards and do not like them. I recommend the CCM SG80 or 100. I use the 80 because they are less bulky.

I was told by Scott to stand with my knees bent and aligned over my toes, so that's what I did.
-
Standing during tracing yes.
-
I had my wife trace each foot with weight on that foot, keeping the pen vertical.
I scanned the tracings and verified they were at 100% size before sending.

The toe box issue was not a measurement problem, rather a construction problem. My smallest toe was placed behind a support piece that had too much carbon fiber layered inside it and caused my toe to jam against it. Bad measurements, of course, would sour this whole experience too.
Overall, this forum is probably not the optimal market for a custom skate like VH. The guys on this forum are pickier about gear for beer league than many of the pros I know.

I had a pair completely redone because the toe fit was wonky. Scott is a great guy.
-
Skated in my second pair today. All of the stuff written above about the lightness, support, and complete comfort is 100% echoed in my experience.
My boots were redone due to toe cap issues I was having. It's very interesting to see how each pair changes as he refines his product: my new boots replaced the carbon "window" on the sidewall with vibram rubber, the tendon guards are attached with copper rivets, and the tongue Velcro is held on with screws instead of rivets.
I am very, very happy.

So, I got my skates back with the adjusted toe caps. Skated a Junior A game in them and am still having issues.
I contacted Scott and he will be fabricating me a new pair of boots to increase the volume and solve the toe issues I'm having once and for all. He is incredibly responsive (even for a picky customer like me) and has been an extremely fast communicator.

Deleting this post, will be posting an in-depth review in the future.

SKATES SHIPPED TODAY!!!!
Prepare for the longest wait of your life.
-
My skates had the toe caps redone and will be arriving Friday. Hoping to use them in games this weekend!
-
At least. The skates get very soft when baked. Let them harden up for a day or two.
-
I have a size 14 foot and I'd say these skates are like an 11EEE/AA. Size 296 runners.
Duck feet -- woo-ooh!
-
So the toe box is too rounded for you it would seem?
Quite the opposite, actually. The toe cap is very form fitting, just a tad too much in my case.
I wouldn't worry about my issue occurring in your pair.
-
Length. Even though my tracings accurately reflect my flat foot shape (I tend to scrunch my toes when I skate), there is not enough room for my last two toes in the toe cape to lie flat.
Scott stands by his stuff, though, so I'm not concerned about getting these to fit me perfectly.
-
So, short update:
Finally skated in them, and I'm having some toe room issues. Notified Scott and he is taking the skates back to rework the toe box.
